Has anyone heard that closed court records?
Apparently, according to the law on the protection of certain records agents FBI kept at the offices of county clerk will soon become inaccessible. Especially those less than 100 years and perhaps as early as 50 years. In response to the new law many courthouses throughout the country are closing their files complete access to all, including genealogists. Preston County, West Virginia has already closed its doors and County Upshur, confirmed the report and suggest that all the courthouse will close soon for research. Is there anything we can do to stop this?
Just to add to what has already been said … Vital Statistics (birth, death) are those who have problems with identity theft. It's just a game that is maintained in any court. Note that these documents are current only vital in the last 100 years (more or less depending on the state). In general, any investigation before 1900 does not refer to these documents anyway. Directions to 1900 is actually easier than most people think, and is a small part of the investigation.
