If you are looking for problems solved in this category that the word "Free" (use "advanced" to limit the search to this category only), you'll find thousands of questions with the word, and at least 2/3rds of asking, "How I can find my family tree for free?" as it did. Answers these questions have many links and tips. We maintain our Top 10 Actions response to this question 3-12 times a day, sigh, and wonder why children have not read the problems solved. You are really rare and special in some respects, perhaps, but not his curiosity about his family. As of 7 2010 June, 4456 had issues with the word "free" on them to genealogy. If you did not mention a country, and not Yahoo! For one of its sub-global sites, we can not know if it is in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada or Australia. I'm in the U.S. and my links are for her. If you are in the U.S., and most of its ancestors were in the U.S., and you can go to a library or FHC with census access, and you're white, then you can get most of their ancestors who lived in 1850 with 100-300 hours of research. You can get to 1870 if Black, unfortunately. Many people stop reading here and pick another hobby. No site will tell you how their grandparents decorated the Christmas tree with ornaments cut aluminum foil during the depression, how Great Uncle Elmer wooed his wife with a banjo, or how Uncle John paid his way through College in the 1960s by smuggling herbs. Talk to your parents who live before it's too late. You are not people at the sites genealogy. You must return to life in 1930 more or less talking to parents, watching the obituaries, etc. Well, not everything you read online is true. You must act with caution and examine the sources of people. Cruz and verify. Here for warnings. Here is the main link. http://www.tedpack.org/yagenlinks.html This page provides links, tips and tricks and how to use the sites, a dozen places to get big. Having a link here in response and a dozen links on my personal site gets around two problems. First, Y! A limit us to 10 links in a response. Secondly, if one or more of the links are very popular, I get "We take a break" when you try to display the answer. This is a bug introduced in August 2008 with the "new look." Need the council. Just for example, most beginners either put too much data in the query page RWWC, or they take the announcement at the top of the slope of the form query. I used to teach a class on Internet Genealogy at the library. I've seen beginners mistakes. The application forms on the sites are not intuitive.
