Is there a list of Jews who came to the Philippines in the late 1800s?
My grandfather was a Jew, he changed his family name when he arrived to the Philippines. Unfortunately, my mother died when he was a toddler, in a word I knew as soon as his father: There must be some kind of ship registration and the list of people who make a place, but I would like to know where to start looking. The only thing that has been my mother said that her father was a German Jew. Please help someone!
Hello! Jews who came to the Philippines in the 1800s often had to change his nationality or ethnic origin, by the stigma of being negative a Jew who held by the Spanish governors. Remember that during this time, the Philippines was a Spanish colony, and Marranos (Jews) were considered outcasts of society. Finally, during the American colonization of the Philippines, most Jews have immigrated to the United States. Other Jews, most have been buried by the Japanese during World War 2. Today, about 1,000 Jewish families are the Jews still in the Philippines. It is a site that can help trace their Jewish ancestry from the Philippines: http://www.chabad.ph/
